View Full Version : About OS prerequisites [solved]
Hello,
Are the OS prerequisites for the single server infrastructure installation so strict that it can only be done with the three OS (Solaris 10, RedHat Enterprise Linux 4, SUSE SLES 10) mentioned in the documentation?
I have a Server with debian 4.0...
Would it work?
Thanks and regards,
Apostolos

I do not think so, i beleave that Fedora (uses the free resources from RedHat) or CentOS works. Debian distris (for example Ubuntu) do not work.

Hello Apostolos,
The list of the operating systems in our reference documentation means that we make sure it works and tested on given platforms.
Basically SOPERA is pure Java application which is based on best-of-breed components such as Apache Tomcat or Apache ActiveMQ, so you could give it a try. The only place where you might have a problems is installation scripts which may not work on your platform.
For example I have SOPERA running on my MacOS which is not in the list of officially supported platforms, I made it run there just by copying over windows installation.
The OS (and their specific versions) that are listed in the prerequisites are the ones that we are officially supporting. That means that we run our regular tests on them for every release, and that any defects that a customer reports about running on these platforms get fixed.
Other platforms are not officially supported, but chances are that they will work fine if you have the right utilities installed for the installer to work. I've successfully installed on Debian. You just need to make sure that you have bc and unzip installed (and tail, but that is part of even the minimal netinstall) in addition to a supported JDK. Ubuntu-based distros are a little more hassle because there is a different version of tail that is causing problems.
Best regards
Jerry (Sopera)
